Today is a milestone celebration day! My daily posts have been a giant exercise in How To Wait For Bones To Heal So I Can Have Another Surgery, so sometimes it is fun to throw in a self-serving party where you’re invited to celebrate with me! I have been using my Exogen bone stimulator for 100 days straight, twice a day for 20 minutes each time. That adds up to 4000 minutes of treatment time. Wow! For some reason I’ve been looking forward to seeing this “100” appear. It isn’t a finish line, but it is a milestone nonetheless.
I decided to look back on what I’ve accomplished during those 4000 minutes. I’m not one to fritter time away, so I thought it would be interesting and enlightening to review what exactly I did.
How I’ve spent 4000 minutes:
- Reading books
- Writing and editing blog posts (like this one right now)
- Connecting with friends
- Recording a podcast
- Eating spoonfuls of almond butter
- Drinking night night tea
- Meditating – focusing my mental energy on healing those bones
- Regrouping physically and mentally – time out, breathe, adapt – Today’s Daily Stoic entry fits this perfectly
Here’s my booklist, in random order:
- The Art of Gathering – Priya Parker
- We Should Get Together – Kat Vellos
- Winning – Tim Grover
- You’re Invited – Jon Levy
- Being Wrong – Kathryn Schulz
- What To Do When It’s Your Turn – Seth Godin
- Bird By Bird – Anne Lamott
- Professional Troublemaker – Luvvie Ajayi Jones
- The Practice – Seth Godin
- Turning Pro – Steven Pressfield
- Grit – Angela Duckworth
- Life As Sport – Jonathan Fader
- The Art of Impossible – Steven Kotler
- Hunt, Gather, Parent – Michaeleen Doucleff
- Atomic Habits – James Clear
- Ego Is The Enemy – Ryan Holiday
- The Daily Stoic – Ryan Holiday & Stephen Hanselman
- Wolfpack – Abby Wambach
- Samples of a pile of others
I’m surprised at how much can be accomplished in 20-minute chunks! Also, I didn’t realize how many books I had read. (I recommend every single one of them, by the way.)
Looking ahead…
I have 39 days until my next appointment. We will get to see if all this Exogen work is helping and how the bones are healing. 39 more days to practice the Art Of The Wait. 39 more days to learn new things, get outside myself, write and share, and live life to the fullest.
In the meantime, today I’m celebrating my 4000 minutes over the last 100 days. Thank you for celebrating with me! Cheers!
