Today is the final day of the 30 Love Letters project. It is also the one year anniversary of the first pubic joint surgery to fix my osteitis pubis. In an odd, tongue-in-cheek combination honoring both events, I’m writing a love letter to my osteoblasts, the cells that synthesize bone.
Dear Osteoblasts,
I have asked a lot of you these last three years. First, through both PAO surgeries, and now as you work overtime to fuse my pubic joint.
You may be microscopically tiny, but you take up an enormous place in my mind and heart every day. I feed you the very best nutrients – I eat perfectly clean, adding in BoneUp and other supplements. I spend 20 mins twice a day providing you assistance with the Exogen bone stimulator while lying still, meditative, focusing my energy on you. And, I add light therapy – set for Bone Growth to help you, and set to Nickel to work on the surrounding areas that are so unhappy with the allergenic metal.
You work day and night. Probably mostly at night, so I am sure to get to bed early and provide you the longest nights possible.
Little dudes, you are adorable! I hope you look like this artistic rendition because it makes me smile.
I want to add cute faces, like Ugly Dolls.
Anthropomorphizing? Guilty! I mean, you are part of a human entity so perhaps I am entitled? It makes me smile, and joy is proven to hasten healing, so I’m going with it.
I like this heroic interpretation of you all at work:
I imagine you all pew pew pew-ing your days away, hard at work laying new bone, like Princess Leia, sisters of total badassery.
Jump to 2:55 for pew pew action.
Our bodies are amazing! The fact that we can regrow many of our body parts is fascinating! And teeny tiny troopers like you, dear osteoblasts, are responsible for not only repairing all my wounds, but for changing my life. I am forever grateful to you.
Soldier on! We’ve got this! Your days to rest are near!
All my love and bones,
Carey
