For several years now I’ve flirted with the idea of doing a Project 365 or even a Project 52 but always shied away, not wanting to potentially set myself up for failure. How SILLY! Look at me now, I’ve been writing this blog every single day since March 11, never missing a day, 265 posts in a row. Writing a blog post a day is much harder than capturing an image a day. SO, with that in mind, I’m going to end the year with a Project 31 and I’d like you to join me…
Ask questions. Raise your hand. Push for answers. Throw away the “n’t”s. Ban complacency and anything resembling “I am not _____ enough.” Today is about courage to ask, to know, to get results – what we all deserve. I’m lit up! Let’s go…
Yesterday was a hugely productive day at our house. Two days post-Thanksgiving, a great day to work on making turkey soup, set up the Christmas tree, massively clean the house – sort through toys, rearrange things, reorder the pantry, wash fridge shelves while Tetris-style making room for larger containers, washing barf-covered bedding. You know, fairly typical stuff. Even with the annoyances along the way, we did it with gratitude for all that we have and are able to do, and at the end exclaimed – We Done Did It, a phrase that is more than the physical acts of doing. It includes deep gratitude for each part.
I took some photos along the way. They are all phone images so please pardon the poor quality. I’ll spare you the yucky bedding…
I’m reading Ryan Holiday’s Courage Is Calling, rekindling my love for his writing. It is his first in what will be his series on the Four Stoic Virtues – wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. Otherwise, my all time favorite book of his is The Obstacle Is The Way. You may have seen me write that phrase a few hundred times by now. A chapter I read last night coupled with a Jay Shetty podcast I listened to yesterday added some clarity to my own thoughts on choice in attitude, so today I’m writing about two attitudes and how they shape our experiences.
We had a beautiful gathering yesterday for Thanksgiving. It was the BEST to have Lucas home and get to spend quality time with him, hear more about his college adventure, and watch Mason and Willa soak up one on one time. Each Thanksgiving, I typically ask everyone to share two things they are grateful for from the past year. This year, I decided to ask something else, a question that promotes forward thinking. In thinking through my own answers and hearing those of others, it got me thinking about sweet spots. What’s the question?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! In honor of the day, I’m sharing 25 gratitudes with you. I begin every single day with my personal gratitude practice, taking time to reflect upon and journal about three things I’m grateful for in that moment, but today I’ll expand it to 25. Let’s go!
I did it! I finally set a Next Appointment! Today we are 10 months plus two days post-op, and now we are also nine weeks out from my upcoming appointment. I figure at the very least we will gather valuable data about healing rate, something to compare to the previous appointment at six months. Six months versus one year. What does that look like? From that, can we predict when it might be fully healed?
Me: “Mason, what should I write about tomorrow?”
Mason: “How about stick bug and the troll song and all the random things that happened today?”
Me: “Alrighty, then! A post of entertaining randomness, a sign that we are all feeling much better – Six Random Things.”
I have another Seth Godin gem that has me laughing this morning. The imagery is funny and the timing is impeccable. It’s a huge kick in my butt to drop the bad habits that have crept back in over the last three weeks and get back to living my best life, to get up and do it now.
Happy 6th Birthday, Willa! I hope you finally got to sleep last night. Turning 6 is AWESOME and EXCITING, I remember feeling the same way! All of those days of counting down and now your big day is finally here. We talked about this post last night during one of your multiple late night trips into my room, what sort of images to include, so here we go!
