Today is a day of decision, a day to take an enormous breath, a day to stir from the savasana and begin my next stage with new plans. It has been a wild three plus months, one that I will explain over the course of a few posts. This period required that I go deeply inward and detach from writing for awhile, and I am so happy that I honored that need and did the work I did. But maybe now is a time of renewal? A time for a different pace, different intensity, different balance. Read on…
Bodybuilding
Progressive Overload is a training style talked about a lot in bodybuilding, but today I’m applying it to everything. Because if there’s anything in life that someone wants to improve at, progressive overload can be applied.
Y is for Yes. I’m so excited, we are finally starting my official show prep! After Tuesday’s weekly check in with my coach, he decided it is time to change the diet from a build diet to the beginnings of my prep diet, change the cardio a bit – it is officially time to prep! What does that mean exactly? Read on…
I went to our typewriter today to ink a message I’ve been receiving from others and also telling myself – keep going. Nothing difficult, elaborate, or new. (I’ve written about it before.) But, powerful in its simplicity. So, I share the typed page with you, the image at the top of this post. Typing it and then turning it into art gave me a few minutes to spend with it, a chance to solidify its message.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my posing practice, especially while practicing, of course, but in general throughout the day, similar to how I spent a lot of time practicing music when I wasn’t actually playing. Mental practice. This is often the best practice because there is no physical hindrance such as lack of technique, excitement of senses other than the imagination, or even self-consciousness. This is the sort of practice that can flow freely and wildly. And this is the sort of practice where some of my most creative ideas are born. So, in regards to my posing practice, I’m applying the same technique. Now that I have learned my footwork, I’m starting to think about timing, grace, style – all of which is keenly related to musical phrasing.
Aha! Total lightbulb moment for me…
I’m growing a booty! So much so that I’ve had to buy new pants. While most people might balk at the idea of needing larger pants, for me and my goals this is AWESOME!! After all of my surgeries decimating my already non-existent bum, I’ve had the hugest hole to climb out of before even beginning to think about the massive mountain of growth required. But, it is working! I might actually end up with some curves! Have a look…
There’s a fine line with so many things in life – not enough and too much, good and great, borrowing and stealing, genius and insanity, being bold and being reckless, life and death, etc. Today I’m going to explore the concept of the fine line in regards to pushing ourselves physically and in regards to our chosen work.
A few random messages and experiences from the last several days are coalescing to form this blog post. It is part letting go of perfectionism and part giving grace to myself for what is outside my control, so long as I am doing my best. I have high standards for myself in every regard, but I am certainly not a perfectionist. The scatted messes in my house are a testament to that, or at least evidence that my standards are focused on what matters most to me. For the things that do matter most, I am always aiming for doing my best – whether it is my ultimate best or my best in a given moment.
It is official! I’ve been invited and have accepted a spot in the 2022 Angel Fashion Show, created and produced annually by Angel Competition Bikinis, the makers of my competition suits. What exactly is the Angel Fashion Show? Read on to learn more…
A winner of an idea landed in my inbox from James Clear. I look forward to his weekly newsletter – it is always full of succinct thoughts, quotes, and a question. This week the one that jumps out at me is the concept of active patience.
