If your name is David Martin, please stop reading.
Everyone else, read on….
The Challenge of the Month Club has such a great challenge for June, I have to share it with all of you! It begins tomorrow, so sharpen your pencils, fill your ink well, clean the crumbs off your keyboard – whatever you need to do to get ready!
This one is born from my post titled “My ‘Yes, And’-er”, an open message of love, bragging on my husband. When I wrote that piece, an important part of it was acknowledging how paralyzing it can be to think about writing about someone we love so deeply.
Where do I start?
The answer is, with one thing. And then another, another, and another. The effects of this are astounding! Not only does the recipient feel incredibly special, but they focus on being their best selves even more. Acknowledgement is powerful.
And perhaps even more profound, the one impacted the most is the writer, spending time focusing on the beautiful aspects of their person with no space left to dwell on the negative annoyances. Just as the most impactful book is the one you write, the most powerful love letters are the ones you give.
So, that’s what I propose we do, for 30 days. Make a list of 30 things you love about your spouse/significant other/whomever you choose and write on one each day. It can be short, long, anything in between, a poem, song, single sentence, whatever you want. These are your love letters.
The image at the top of this post is my wedding vows to David, the first love letter in our marriage. My words, handwritten, and woven into a pillow I knit and sewed together. This was also the pillow for our rings and an easy way to read my vows to him. It was quite a project, definitely not something that happened in a day, but let it inspire you to get creative!
I leave the giving up to you, but I’m playing with the idea of collecting mine and publishing them into a book to give to David.
AND
To go a step further, an important piece of writing these letters is sharing them publicly. I’m going to save this part for another day (soon!), but for now hold onto the idea.
All you need to do right now is pick your person and make a list of 30 things to write about, your topics for your 30 love letters.
Ready?
GO!
If you’re doing it, I want to know!
