Face down in a messy parenting afternoon yesterday, mentally chanting “I don’t have to, I get to” on repeat, I decided it was time to turn to the yoga mat for some breath and mobility work.
I had not done an official yoga class since early January, unable to do anything more than up dog, down dog, and forward folds. Everything else had painful twisting and scissoring of the legs that wasn’t good for me with this recovery. But, with my recent success with hiking and my test run, I felt ready to try – and my mind and nerves sure needed it!
Prior to this most recent recovery, I did a LOT of yoga as a mobility tool, particularly in working through the bilateral adhesive capsulitis of the hips. It was tough during that time, but it felt like maybe, maayyybe, it was slowly chipping away at the joint capsules. At the very least I got time for breath work and centering myself.
There are two poses that have been my nemeses, impossible with bound up hip capsules – fire log pose and cow face pose. I practiced them nearly everyday – here is what they looked like along the way:

Y’all! Things are changing! This is working! The bones are fusing and the capsules are finally releasing. For the first time, I feel like I can allow myself to get excited and feel hope that we are getting to the end of all of this. I can let my guard of emotional self-protection down. I can allow myself to look ahead to future plans. Big Tab Three is within reach!
Today I’ll probably be mooing in my new cow face pose alternating with sitting in fire log pose. Anyone want to join me for some yoga?
