Yesterday I was waffling and today I’m handling curve balls. They’re intimately connected (that’s a funny image) to rethinking, something I hinted at yesterday.
Sometimes life throws us curve balls. The key is in what we do with them. Do we duck and cover, swing and hit, or catch them? Do we fight the curve, or dance with it?
And sometimes we waffle on decisions. Is this a sign of indecision, or a sign of rethinking?
That is for each of us to decide, and surely a case by case issue depending on the type of curve ball and type of decision.
Awesome Curve Ball
For me, I’m dancing with my new curve ball – my daily rashes have stopped! I feel like a new person! I feel comfortable! I feel too excited to sleep! I feel like I can’t stop using exclamation points in describing it! I feel like these images and more!
Awesome Decision
Based on my new curve ball, I’ve rethought my surgery decision. I’ve waffled. This way and that, weighting the pros and cons repeatedly from different angles, flippity floppity. Ultimately, I’ve changed my mind and am choosing to not do any surgery right now. I’m choosing Option 3 – wait until the bones fuse and then remove the current metal once and for all.
I’m definitely allergic to the metal and still have local bone/metal pain, but without the daily outbreaks I’m left with only that one area to deal with.
Pain Point Inventory
Do you remember my Pain Point Inventory? You can see the first version here. And the second one here. I started with 9 items on the list, then moved to 5. Now it looks like this:
Pain Point Inventory – July 21, 2021, 6 months post-op
- Rectus insertions – Irritated from the metal, particularly on the left side.
- Fusion site – Continuing to heal. Zero pain, but THE focus for healing.
- Screw sites – Irritated and sensitive from the metal.
I can manage this!
One area, all related to the metal, and once the fusion is complete we will take the metal out. Granted, the most bothersome part is the metal/bone pain, not the daily outbreaks, but having only one area to focus on is a huge shift.
With this in mind, it seems smartest and most efficient to carry on. The other options are a gamble as to whether they will help me feel better. I’m able to tolerate the current setup just fine, so why mess with it?
My waffles say – hunker down and carry on because it is going to take the same amount of time to heal no matter what. Switching things up may be an entertaining diversion, but healing will happen when healing happens. Success is not linear. So, get comfortable and go live life in the meantime.
So, with that, we will do some PRP in the coming weeks to promote new healing. Otherwise, onward ho! Curve ball caught and waffles consulted. I feel settled and content.
