Inspired by the fun I was having with making lollipop images, I took my camera outside yesterday for some Lensbaby shooting in my yard. We’ve had some colorful and interesting wildflowers and weeds pop up recently, always good photo subjects. The results are not masterpieces (hello, contentment), but for me the joy is in the creation more than the product. In the end, I have a pair of triptychs and an image of three weeds (top image, not a triptych). This inspired me to issue today’s mission, should you choose to accept – The Triptych Challenge.
It goes like this…
First, a definition:
The Triptych Challenge
Today we are making triptychs, of ANY kind. Write, draw, paint, photograph, sidewalk chalk your driveway, create music, do it with a creative food presentation, a tequila flight (today is National Tequila Day after all), get creative and think in threes!
I love making photographic triptychs. I think these were born from my lack of mobility over the last several years – it was easier to sit longer with a single subject and push myself to see it in many different ways than it was to get up and move to new subjects. Immobility is good for creativity! But, also, I truly enjoy exploring a subject fully.
While I shot a number of subjects yesterday, because I can, I ended up spending time with these two wildflowers, exploring different elements, textures, colors, and moods. These were both right out my front door.
First, an orange Who-Knows-What
Next, a tiny pink Poppy
Later today I’ll venture into my backyard to see what else is waiting to shine for my camera. Shooting new images feels exciting to me right now! I’m motivated by my new abilities to get down into the dirt, squat, and generally feel comfortable while shooting – this has been a long time coming.
I’m looking forward to involving my family in this challenge today. And YOU!! Go make a triptych of some sort and share it with me!
The Triptych Challenge is ON!
