Secret weapon number 4, here we go! This one takes us back to the bed. As I mentioned in my sleep week series, nighttime temperature is important for deep sleep. Cooling our core temperature and establishing a cool environment go hand in hand for promoting faster deep sleep. And then, maintaining both throughout the night are key for a full night of sleep. I have found the best solution for regulating sleep temp, one that solves both the core temp issue and the ambient environment issue at the same time.
ChiliSleep™
Welcome to ChiliSleep™! This, along with my grounding mat, is my new bed best friend! Chilisleep is a mat that goes beneath your fitted sheet and allows you to regulate the temperature of your bed. The range is huge – 55º-115º. It works via tiny water channels that run through the pad.
Sleep Temp
It is proven that cooler temps that align with our decrease in core body temp help promote faster deep sleep. So, setting the ChiliSleep™ down low (I’m playing with 63º-65º) in the early part of the night helps us get right down to it. No more too hot bed! No more kicking covers off and then pulling them back on all night long. Say goodbye to sweaty pajamas. No more concern about if the thermostat is set too high. Then, our temps slowly rise in the second half of the night towards morning.
OOLER
I got the OOLER system because I liked the idea of being able to program sequences that align with my body temp changes through the night. I’ve been playing with it, honing in on exactly what time I want changes to happen, and what temps feel best. The increase to 95º in the morning is to promote morning wakefulness and aligns with our natural rise in body temp. It is the NICEST way to wake up!

Alternatively, I’m on day four of nursing a fever so I have been keeping it pretty warm to help me sleep. Trying to sleep while huddled under the covers shivering all night is no fun at all! Having a warm bed has been the best comfort. I turned my normal schedule, the one above, off and created a new one to use until I feel better.
