Happy Christmas Eve to you! Every morning this month both Willa and Mason have been enjoying their Lego Advent Calendars – Lego Friends for Willa and Lego Star Wars for Mason. We have been getting them since Lucas was little so I have a feeling we will do this in perpetuity. Each day they open a new door and have a tiny set to build that adds to a collection that creates a scene, and each year they are different so it is fun to see what is in each one. However, they are still little kits with instructions, boundaries, and limits. The build takes maybe a minute – yay, you followed the instructions – but it has little meaning afterwards. Fortunately, all three of my kids quickly move out of that realm and into their own creative, boundless space with Legos. This is where the true genius of Lego resides…
Boundless Builds
Yesterday I came home from the gym to find Mason and Willa playing with their sets together. They had taken leftover spare parts and made the duo you see at the top of this post – King Candelabra and The Lunch Lady. Despite being made out of only whatever parts they had as extras from the 22 days prior, these two characters are the BEST of the entire month! Despite having no faces, they have personalities, and they make me smile. This is boundless building, boundless play, and boundless imagination. I knew right away that they had to be my Project 31 image for the day and today’s topic. They were a perfect addition to our ridiculous Festivus activities, focused on everything NOT commercial. Created only from their imaginations and leftover parts – that is boundlessness, creativity, and true Festivus material.
Boundless Christmas
May we all apply this line of thinking this holiday season and all year round. Remove boundaries, open ourselves to creativity, and tap into our imaginations once again. May we all have a King Candelabra and The Lunch Lady in our lives, and may we be boundless.
