Merry Christmas to you and your family! Today’s post is short and sweet because I’m planning on spending the day with my family, enjoying every bit of the day together. It is rare that all five of us are together so savor it we will!
Christmas Eve
In our family, we begin our Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve. The morning is typically busy, but we do something fun together in the afternoon – for fun and to help channel the kids’ excited energy. And, we clean up the house. Santa won’t come to a messy house! It is one of the only days of the year I get happy, eager cleaners.
This year our fun afternoon outing was a trip to Denver to a Japanese fish market to pick up sushi fish for our Christmas dinner. We had never been to that particular market so it was fun to explore.
We also spent time on Skype with my family in Ohio. They were all at my brother’s house so it was special to reconnect with everyone. Merry Christmas to you all!
The Unwrapping of Gifts
I feel like this event should be a holiday of its own. One of the most anticipated evenings of the year, up there with Halloween, it is so fun to experience the energy of the kids as we unwrap gifts together. This year we had everything from a Ghillie suit to Hot Wheels to a beekeeper suit to great grandma’s heirlooms, and every wild angle in between.
The image at the top of this post was taken with my new Lensbaby OMNI effects kit. There are SO MANY parts to it, it is going to take some time to explore it all. Last night I had enough energy left to make only the one image. Plopped on a beanbag with parts everywhere, that’s all I had left in me – Christmas Eve through my blurred but sparkling eyes.
The following image was made by Mason a couple of weeks ago using my Lensball.
Merry Christmas 2021
Today we will spend time enjoying our new toys and figuring out how to do DIY sushi. Today we will simply BE together. I’ll make fresh almond milk, play with my new Lensbaby toys, and let everything else go. The kids will be busy with light sabers and Legos and everything else. It is a day to stop and savor and feel gratitude for all that we have. It is a day to call friends and family. And It is a day where the best present of all is to simply be present.
Merry Christmas to you! May you be happy, healthy, and safe today!
