We have had maybe two inches of snow here all season. Up in the mountains in Colorado. It is so strange! I had planned on creating a lot of snow and macro snowflake images as part of my Project 31, but unbelievably it isn’t going to happen. But how can December pass without any snowflake images? It CAN’T! So, yesterday afternoon Willa and I made our own snowflakes, even better than real ones because ours are RAINBOW snowflakes!
Paper Snowflakes?
I had originally planned to teach her how to make paper snowflakes. A whole bunch of them and then tape them to our windows. I had this vision of pretty white paper adorning the living room, something you’d see in a beautiful Pinterest post, but art never goes that way here. We have our own style and vision that can’t help but shine through. Willa had asked me to do some beading with her earlier in the morning so we decided to make pipe cleaner and bead snowflakes instead.
Rainbow Snowflakes
And, of course, we couldn’t simply make blue or white snowflakes, something more traditionally “snow.” No way! She’s a rainbow girl. I’m a rainbow girl. Rainbow is our favorite color.
In the end, we made three colorful snowflakes that I then photographed. For the following image, I used a small mirror and a crystal lens attachments – both caught the stripes on my (you guessed it) RAINBOW long john pants. So now we have rainbow snowflakes flying through a snowstorm in outer space. 100% plausible, 100% Us.
Real Snowflakes
We’ll get our share of real snow eventually. In the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy our rainbow snowflakes in our rainbow world.
