In honor of National Sticker Day, I pulled out my old laptop from about 9-10 years ago. Why? Never a fan of putting stickers on cars, I covered the computer case in meaningful stickers instead. I haven’t used this computer in years, so it was interesting to visit the stickers and remember their stories. It is amazing how different it all feels, like a different lifetime entirely.
A Different Lifetime
How can just a few years feel like a whole different lifetime? We lived in the same house, all had the same names, etc., but WOW were things different! It was just the two boys then, one in elementary school and one finishing preschool. Our house was still Lego and Hot Wheels mayhem, but there was no Willa or anything girly.
Different Adventures
David and I were deep into our Running Martins career, running epic races together all over the world. There was a lot of camper adventuring, the Grand Canyon R2R2R (rim to rim to rim) run, Nordic skiing, the TransRockies and TransAlpine Runs, and daily running together as soon as the kids were off to school.
We were into dirt. A lot of dirt.
Changes
Then I had ankle surgeries, then a baby, then 11 more surgeries. We don’t do any of those types of adventures now and can’t ever again. Instead, we have entirely new adventures, girl energy in the house, new hobbies and interests, even different pets. It is interesting how new chapters unfold and what seems like magic that will last forever changes in a flash. While that may sound sad, it is actually beautiful to me. The whole For Every Season thing.
The key is to not hold on to the old and instead embrace the new with the same excitement. Life is never static, so to expect things in our lives to be so is silly.
New Stickers
If I were to decorate a new laptop, it would have a lot more pink, glitter, and sparkly things. Rainbows, Tokidoki, toast, cute Kawaii, waffles, unicorns, sunshine, honest blob, and love hearts. Things like these:
I write these daily posts on my iPad, which is completely devoid of stickers. A simple black case with a keyboard, a clean space in which to think and write with clarity.
It is a different lifetime entirely.
