Me: “Mason, what should I write about tomorrow?” Mason: “My Legos, at BrickFair.” Alright! Mason is typically not interested in being in the spotlight, but this is all too good to keep to ourselves. The focus of his education, his life’s passion, his literal name.
BrickFair VA
In late July, Mason and David traveled to VA for a week so Mason could be an exhibitor at BrickFair. This is the largest Lego event each year, an opportunity for AFOLs (Adult Fans Of Lego) to display their grandest creations from the year. Mason was the youngest, invited to participate based on his skill level.
He and his mentor, Aaron Newman, spent a few months working on a collaboration build together, a massive battle scene. Ultimately, Mason did everything you see in it except for the two smaller tanks on the land, but the planning, design, and contribution of pieces were shared.
This was a special culmination to a year spent working together weekly through Zoom, tying together so many lessons and skills they worked on, just before Aaron moves to Denmark as their newest official Lego designer! WOW!
Lego Masters
Aaron is a true Lego Master. Here is a peek at him at work along with Christian Cowgill.
And here they are admiring Mason and his work.
Here is an overview of Mason’s display. It includes the battle scene along with several of his favorite tanks, all original designs.
Speed Build
One day at the event Mason and Aaron bought this set and built it together. In 45 minutes.
MORE BrickFair
Mason came home excited and motivated to go to more events. Build more, travel more, meet more people, share more, improve his skills even more – GO!
He and David brought the entire display home so I could photograph it in detail. Check it all out HERE along with a gallery of his favorite original builds.
