Today is Candle Day, a “holiday” created for commercial purposes, but I say we turn it into something more meaningful. Candles are ubiquitous, multipurpose, and gorgeous in every case. Let’s take a look…
Candles
Having done zero research, here are some of the moments I can think of where we use candles:
- Safety – ever have a power outage?
- Celebrations – birthday cake
- Weddings
- Romantic dinners
- Times of reverence – church
- Ceremonial
- Sad times for remembrance
- Hopeful times
- Candlelight vigils
- Relaxation
- Birth – We filled my bedroom with a ton of these beauties for Willa’s birth.
Candles promote intention. We light them for a reason and then focus on them, a singular point. Sometimes they bring us into ourselves, alone, and sometimes they bring us together as a collective for a mutual purpose.
Beauty
Candles are also beautiful. Before they are lit, while they are burning, and then they create the most marvelous smoke after they are blown out, a delight for the eyes and the nose.
Three Candles
Today, in honor of our newly defined holiday, light three candles. One in remembrance of something past, one for something present, and one for something future.
