Our projects are finished! I am so excited to share the final result with you, putting a shiny blue-green bow on the entire experience. Read on to see images and final thoughts.
My best friend and I came to this experience with open eyes and hearts, looking to try something completely new and immerse ourselves into the fun that comes with that. After all, one of my tools is to try new things, so who better to do it with than your bestie?
We came away with so much more than expected! A new experience and skills for sure, but also new ways of seeing things, expanded appreciation for the art of pottery, new stories that bind, and a new friend – Sunny. It turns out that she needed all of us as much as we needed her and the experience she provided, truly a collective gift, connecting us by clay. Sunny, thank you!
Connected by Clay
In the beginning, the clay was pliable, bendy, squishy, even capable of flying wildly off the wheel. But as each stage of the project progressed, it became firmer, more resolute in its form and place. Finally, it became rock solid, even defiantly holding itself together through an explosion. This mirrors the formations of the best connections in our lives, strong, solid, and unbreakable.
Connected by Vibrancy
There were no kiln accidents this time. No more broken parts, just beautiful, vibrant colors, a complete visual feast. The colors add even more beauty to the flaws, turning them into the most expressive points of visual interest. This mirrors the connection my BFF and I have, founded on the unique expression of the bowls of our souls. We treasure this unique, vibrant connection.
Did you guess what our glaze colors would be based on what they looked like before firing? We chose bluegrass green and pistachio, making our pieces match but opposite each other. We picked these colors completely on visual appeal, but it is fun to explore the significance of each after the fact.
Bluegrass Green
Grass is about roots, connections, and foundations. Grass is essential or the earth. The roots of grass are interconnected, so when you alter a patch, you alter the whole. It symbolizes health, abundance, connection, expansion, and healing. Blue-greens are about communication, creativity, and self-expression.
Pistachio
Pistachios represent balance and generosity, a time of both giving and receiving. They represent giving of our talents, friendship, and willingness to help others. Also, receiving of these same gifts from others, and gratitude all around.
Who knew?
We certainly didn’t! But everything above applies perfectly. Maybe our subconsciouses did. In any case, I’m even more in love with our color choices now.
This experience together is a forever gift, one I will never forget. We are connected by so many things, and now we can also say we are connected by clay.
We wondered what our next new adventure would be – Sunny invited us to go stand up paddle boarding with her, one of her passions. YES YES YES! I have never gone, so let’s go! New friend, new adventure, learn something new, initially connected by clay, next we will be connected by water.
