Dear Sister, you know how to deliver a surprise! Receiving your letter and drawing the other day made my week. This is a month of writing love letters, so today I’m writing one to you.
Dear sister, we don’t spend nearly enough time together. We don’t live near one another, but beyond that, neither of us has made our best efforts to connect, at least I know I haven’t to the degree I would like to. Your letter and drawing showed me that we are growing into the people we want to be as sisters and that makes my heart happy.
Dear sister, your letter showed me that you have taken some time to read my writing, curious to know more about my hip dysplasia and osteitis pubis journey and its impact on me. No one made you read, you came to it on your own. And then, you absorbed a piece of what you read and created your own art from it. You were inspired by Giant Realistic Flying Tiger, something I am SURE you and I would have loved as kids. I can picture it perfectly.
Dear sister, you made art for me! This is spectacular! Just as “I am not a writer,” you “are not an artist.” Totally ridiculous, unwanted identities. We are both growing into skills that we spent our whole lives shying away from, always believing ourselves unable. Not only did we feel that we lacked the talent and skills, but we lacked permission to even consider trying, paralyzing ourselves into staying in our tiny boxes. I’m delighted to see us simultaneously tossing aside those self-created limits and growing into new, better versions of ourselves!
Dear sister, thank you for for thinking of me! You expressed a hope that your letter would help me feel empowered. Yes, girl, yes! Your vivid support means the world to me!
Dear sister, thank you for being thoughtful and caring. I feel special and loved today thanks to you. I’m going to have this piece of art framed because I want to see it and be reminded every day of how you made me feel.
All my love,
Big Sister
