Habits Reboot Day 7 – If you’re jumping in today, please go back and start from Day 1. While we’re wrapping this week of rebooting habits, it is important to keep in mind that they are a practice that require constant tending. Wouldn’t it be nice to make long lasting desired changes after only one application? It doesn’t work that way, so today I’m going to invite you to a challenge that will help make the permanent changes we all want. A new Challenge of The Month Club challenge – The Habits Reboot Workshop.
But First
How have you done this past week? Did you work your way through each day’s missions? Are there some you set aside “for later”? Today is the day to go back and do them. Recognize why you set them aside (too hard, don’t want to think about it, I’ve run out of trash bags) and face them head on.
I’ll be the first to admit that I set aside two of the more thoughtful ones for a day, but the accountability that comes with writing this blog is what pushed me to complete them. And I’m so grateful that I did because I learned a LOT and am better for it. (10 Old Goals and 10 Ruminations, you have been set free!) As I mentioned on Day 1, the purpose for me was to get my act together in the week leading up to school starting again. I’m pleased with the track I’m on now and the new, in-process habits I’m working on. I’ll share what exactly these are tomorrow.
For now, I have one final mission to wrap up the week…

This is the new Challenge of the Month Club challenge so I’ll be doing it right alongside you. This is an opportunity to make some Once And For All changes in an effective way, following tested methods that are founded in science. 30 Days to Better Habits is a tool to put everything from Atomic Habits into practice, moving the ideas from highlighted pages in a book into real life experiences.
You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.
– James Clear, Atomic Habits
Thank you, James! This tool will help us all improve our systems to match our goals.
Nerd Moment
Allow me to nerd out for a minute – stuff like this gets me excited. Here are a few graphs and charts pulled from Atomic Habits, pages I bookmarked months ago when I first read the book. They will come up again but for now let the seeds be planted.
Habit Loop
This is happening constantly. With everything we do, most of which we are totally unaware. Pause and absorb that for a moment. Pick one of your own habits and dissect it to fully appreciate this process.
The Four Laws of Behavior Change
This might seem obvious and overly simplistic, but habits really are that simple. ALL habits. Go look at your BAD habits. Do these laws apply? Yes? Touché.
Now let’s invert it, because inverting thought is POWERFUL. Think through problems and habits frontwards and backwards. Consider the opposite and often a solution emerges.
Habits are really easy to settle into with the right systems in place. Of course, you will need to read the book to understand the depth and details of these laws. They are simple and straightforward, but they require time and attention in order to stick and become a lifestyle.
What Habits to Change?
Are you game to dig in for 30 days and make some changes? Are you wondering what habits to work on? Maybe you have a whole list? This is entirely up to you, but for me I’m choosing to tackle habits related to my list from Day 5 – 10 Old Goals – so I can permanently set those free in favor of embracing my new goals. See how this is tying together?
What will you choose?
Will you join me?
Then tell me you’re in for the Habits Reboot Workshop so we can practice together and hold each other accountable.
