Grab a paper and pen, keyboard, whatever – today we are going to write. The question is – What does your ideal day look like? Don’t begin yet. Let the seed germinate while you continue to read this post.
Why the Ideal Day?
What does it matter if we dream up our ideal day? Is there value in this, or is it a lot like writing about our Summer vacation on the first day of 6th grade?
There’s HUGE value in this.
We often think of our lives as happening in the future, as if what we are living now is merely a stepping stone to get to There. But it isn’t so. Life is Here. Now. Whatever our reality is right now is our life and it shapes the future.
Maybe we are young and working our way through school, or up the corporate ladder, or whatever stepping stones in life. Those definitely have elements of forward-looking, future-targeted achievement. However, life is still Now within these seasons. Values we hold, behaviors we choose, relationships we form – everything is part of Life Right Now.
We can live an ideal day no matter what our life situation is in relation to our life goals.
And we have to.
Knowing and living our ideal day is important for knowing the purpose of all the work we put into achieving our future goals. How can we create the right trajectory without knowing exactly what we are aiming for? Does the work we are doing align with what we really want?
What does your ideal day look like?
Cue this up to 2:34.
Thank you, Ryan Holiday.
Go write
OK, now write out your ideal day. Describe it in detail from morning through night. Where do you live? Describe your home. How will you dress? Who will you spend your time with? Doing what? What will you eat? See? Smell? Etc.
Compare it to how you spend a typical day right now.
Where is there overlap?
Where is there incongruence and why?
Does your current trajectory match with where you ultimately want to go?
All things are created twice; first mentally; then physically. The key to creativity is to begin with the end in mind, with a vision and a blueprint of the desired result.
– Stephen Covey
Sit with it then go create alignment between your being and doing. Knowing what your ideal day looks like is paramount to living a great life every day. Share this post and ask those closest to you the same question.
