In a wild turn from the science of sleep, today I’m sharing a thing I did yesterday. As you know by now, I’m a fan of being prepared – not just for things like surgery recovery, but really everything. I’m a student of life, sport, whatever interests me, and I take it through to its fullest. Fortunately I married a man who is just like me in that regard, so together we are truly The Ish of showing up prepared. The latest iteration? #MERMAIDHAIR
What? Why?
My recovery progress is silently moving along. The day when it is finally over will come when it does. In the meantime, I’m living life! I’m digging into my new sport of bodybuilding and working hard with my coach each week to hone in on a show ready package. I’m nailing the food and the workouts…
But there’s more to it than the body.
Presentation Matters
This is a huge component of bodybuilding. Someone could have the most incredible body but if they can’t present it well, they lose. Inversely, a less bangin’ package presented flawlessly will win over the better, but poorly presented one. Presentation matters.
It turns out this is where a lot of competitors miss the boat. They wait too long to figure it out or don’t practice enough, don’t get a posing coach, etc.
How I’m Skipping The Line
I’m determined to master presentation. I may not have any history with posing or dance or glam makeup, but I do have other elements that I am tapping into.
- My lifelong music career affords me comfort on stage.
- It also gives me discipline to practice.
- And skills to execute effective practice.
- Prior public speaking engagements give me poise and ability to make eye contact.
- Participating in the LA club scene gives me comfort being almost naked in public.
- Interest in learning and comfort in asking a lot of questions is opening doors right now. I’m aware of the boxes.
- Most of all – I have the worlds best husband that supports and pushes me to do my best.
What I’ve Been Up To
I’ve been working one on one with a posing coach locally plus attending group posing classes. I also did a one on one make-up lesson to learn stage makeup application and have been practicing every day. Additionally, I got competition tanning products and a tutorial to learn to do my own tan. I also got my competition suit – it is GORGEOUS!
So, #MERMAIDHAIR?
My darling, generous husband wanted me to complete the package with rockstar hair, in line with what the top competitors are wearing. Long, full, gorgeous – not my thin, scraggly, limp locks.
Here is last year’s Miss Olympia, Janet Layug, as an example.
Sooooo….
Yesterday he gifted me with #MERMAIDHAIR!
Holy heck, check it out! This gorgeous work is thanks to Carissa Salazar at Evolution Salon in Denver. This has been my salon for about 8 years now, but my first time getting hand-tied extensions. Carissa, you are a true pro! My hair is so comfortable, I slept like Sleeping Beauty last night, long Rapunzel braid flowing all over the pillows. I feel like a Disney Princess Mermaid.
I’m on my way with getting prepared. I’m ready to get ready, checking the boxes on improving my presentation skills, sporting the most badass mermaid hair possible!
Presentation, details, it all matters.
