Y’all I’m totally sparked right now! Yesterday I wrote about the concept of what sparks each of us, sharing the results of my Sparketype Assessment®, introducing Jonathan Field’s soon to be released book, Sparked. All really good stuff. But then yesterday evening as I was preparing dinner I received an early copy of the book! NO WAY!
Guess what I read after dinner?
Sparked
Because I’m a Maven, fueled by learning for the sake of learning, I devoured the entire book. This book is SO GOOD!
Sparked Extras
Jonathan also sent a bunch of media for sharing and promoting, more genius (and genuine) marketing. He is a living example of living a sparked life, doing the work he was made for, fully alive with purpose, passion, and joy. It is infectious.
Watch this and see if you agree.
What’s your Sparketype®?
Go find out! This is not yet another personality test. It is a different approach that will validate things about yourself, add clarity and understanding, it’s whole other level stuff.
We all have a certain impulse or imprint for work that fills us with meaning, drops us into that transcendent state of flow, excites and inspires us and fills us with purpose, potential and possibility, like we’re doing the thing we were put here to do. This imprint is your Sparketype®, which is a fun way of saying it’s the archetype for work that “sparks” you.
Once you discover yours, it’s like you’re seeing yourself more clearly, and you feel empowered to finally understand how to find and work that truly lights you up. I discovered mine, and it’s made a huge difference. I cannot recommend it enough.
You will need to take the assessment before diving into the book, and once you do you can get immediate information like I shared yesterday. Then, the book goes very deeply into the multi layers of each Sparketype®.
My Sparketype®
I shared yesterday that I’m The Maven and The Maker – Maven as Primary and Maker as Shadow. This means that my primary driver is learning for the sake of learning, and that my penchant for making is in support of the learning.
How does that work? How does making things support my desire to learn? Wouldn’t it be the other way around?
I was left wondering, figuring I’d find out once I got my hands on the book…
Aha!
Yep, having read the book it makes sense now. Mavens are process driven. Does that sound familiar to so many things I’ve written about before? For example, process art versus product art.
Writing
My drive to write and publish a new blog post every day fits this. Through the process of writing I am uncovering, learning, processing the information swimming in my head. The writing gives clarity and form to my thoughts. I’m also learning to be a better writer. The commitment to writing something new everyday is a free ticket to go learn a lot of new things so I have material to pull from. The writing and sharing (the Make) are in support of the learning. If the writing lands well for the reader, great! If not, I’m super happy with the learning – the process is the prize more than the product.
Music
This fits with my music career. As a child, I LOVED learning to play instruments, new music, keep it coming! My favorite was sight reading. Give me more to read and learn – Process. My least favorite part was performing – Product. I can see now that the making of music was a vehicle for the learning rather than the other way around, the learning supporting the end product of performing. I could have simply read about music but the act of doing it, the Make, added a whole new level of learning that only comes with hands-on experience. IT MAKES SENSE NOW!
Photography
With my photography, my favorite projects are ones that I have to plan for and/or learn new skills for. I’d rather plan for and execute a singular shot of the moon aligned with a mountain and Milky Way than a full gallery of easy to capture and edit images. The joy is in the process and most finished images never even get shared.
I make for the sake of the learning.
So interesting!
I’m Sparked
Yesterday Jonathan asked me to “Think about something you could do in the next 24 hours that involves your Primary Sparketype and Shadow Sparketype working together.” That’s easy! Read his book and write a blog post about it!
I began this blog as a personal challenge to work through this epic wait of healing from my most recent surgery. An unknown amount of time, can I really do this? It turns out it is the perfect vehicle to support my insatiable desire to learn while also supporting my desire to make. The Make is in full support of the Learn – no wonder this is the first thing I do every morning, setting the tone for my entire day. I love the challenge and everything I learn along the way. This is one example of me living a sparked life, and knowing that makes me all the more excited to continue.
