Today is our 10th anniversary – for which we definitely get a rain check. While our focus has always been to make a big deal of the 11th, ten years is still nothing to shake a stick at. In honor of our current plight, here’s a funny moment from our beginnings. We might feel like doo doo right now, but at least we’re not eating at this restaurant!
Dear David,
Do you remember Christmas Eve 2011? It was one of the funniest, most stomach churning nights ever.
We had just gotten married and you, Mason, Sesi, and I were a couple of days in to our impromptu half-way across the country move. It was Christmas Eve, we were set up at a crappy campground in Moab, snow the on ground, Sponge-Bob Squarepants blow-up yard decoration – one that belonged in Pismo Beach along with a few Parma, OH pink flamingoes – on display along with a string Christmas lights shoddily strung on the roll-out awning. We were set for Santa to come visit Mason and we were all STARVING!
We decided we were too lazy/tired to cook so we went into downtown Moab to find something delicious for dinner. The only place that was open was a Chinese restaurant right in the center of town, the best location possible. It had to be good!
Except it wasn’t. It was the worst food either of us had ever experienced! We barely touched it and when the waitress asked if we wanted to package it go, you were too polite and pasty green to decline. I’m not sure if our stomachs hurt more from the smell, the few bites we ate, or laughing so hard.
As soon as we left, we threw all the packaged food into the trash can right out front in their parking lot. We decided this was worse than Chun King cans from the 80’s. And that this restaurant deserved the best real estate location in town for miraculously doing the impossible – Worst Food On Earth.
We ended up back in the camper cooking dinner after all, a few dollars poorer and wiser for the wear.
At least we had Sponge Bob, Santa Claus, and a 4-year-old bare-bottomed Mason to keep our spirits up!
All my love and funny Christmas!
Carey
