In honor of enjoying every day and the gifts within, a concept I mentioned in Contentment, Curve Balls, and Listen to Your Waffles, I’m easing off the internal intensity and having more fun. One of my favorite ways to have fun and live life right now is through art and color. Combine those with some sugar and we have a recipe for some eye candy!
Lollipop Day
I maybe be several days late but I’m not a grain of sugar shy! June 20th was Lollipop Day, but my delay was worth it! Founded by the National Confectioners Association, Lollipop Day is definitely a colorful, happy day – for me with a camera, and for my kids when I’m done. Really, who doesn’t smile when seeing a colorful, swirly lollipop?
Knowing exactly where to get the prettiest lollipops, Mason and I took a trip to the Hammond’s Candies factory. It is like a Willy Wonka scene in the store – candy of every type and color EVERYWHERE! Kids on overdrive, staff offering samples, and the endless sound of cellophane wrappers being crinkled and torn off.
The tour is a visual nirvana, watching the experts hand pull the candy into beautifully twisted colors, perfectly balanced with every pull. Every piece I’ve photographed here was handmade – they train for years to get it right.
Here is a photo series from a few years ago, the first time my daughter ever had a lollipop. Of course, it’s a Hammond’s Candies lollipop. It was stuck in her hair, all over her hands and face, and a total delight!
I’ve made it my mission to add value with every post I write. Today I aim to add a smile, an ease, some eye candy, and a reminder to go have fun. Did it work? Are you smiling? Every day can be Lollipop Day!
